Credit- where credit is long overdue! The BACK room

                        February 14, 2012
As anyone who has stayed in the lodge recently would agree, the new “back room” has been a fabulous addition to the house. Not only does it provide members with a warm, inviting place to hang out après ski, but it has created a quieter zone in the front of the house adjacent to the first and second floor bedrooms. But none of this would have been possible without the persistence, dedication and sweat equity of a group of members who had the vision for the back room and worked to make it a reality.

The Norwalk Ski Club Board would like to recognize these members and their contributions. We’ve tried to include everyone, but please let us know if we’ve left anyone out.

                        • Ron Arendt, who was one of the original advocates of the back room renovation project and drew up the original plans, and Howard and Lauren Stephens and Larry Ogren, who also rallied support for the project.
                        • Joe Frank, who was also literally there from the ground floor up, helping to rip out the original, rotted floor boards, lay the new floor and frame the walls.
                        • Jim Silvester, who managed much of the critical logistics work, including a feasibility study, design and construction requirements, the building department permitting and filing process, and the construction budget and timeline.
                        • Joe Carter, who worked with Jim Silvester on much of the upfront work, and took on the responsibility of retaining and managing the subcontractors, filing the required permits, as well as researching, and purchasing materials that included the insulation system, fans and lighting fixtures.
                        • John Guth, who specified the heating system.
                        • Ron Arendt, who built the fireplace and surround, and provided construction services throughout the project.
                        • Joe Schettino, who did all the sheetrock and taping, so the walls were paint-ready.
                        • Tim Freelander, who provided a substantial amount of labor throughout the construction process.
                        • Matt Offredi, who generously donated over $1200 worth of carpeting for the entry porch, lobby area and phone room as well as the tack boards installed on the wall in the dining area.
                        • Howard Stephens, the standing NSC president, who gave approval to go ahead, after years of membership deliberation & Discussion!
                        • Chris Sullivan, who has expertly managed the NSC finances, making it possible for the club to take on such an involved project, and who secured the line of credit, and her husband Rocky, who was involved in the construction process.
                        • Ray Traggianese, who organized work weekends to move the project forward and who also contributed his own labor, working on projects that included sanding and finishing the floors.
                        • Mary Traggianese, who is responsible for all the finishing touches including the color scheme, furnishings and rug.

"First Star" by Bernadetta Swigut is named for the Polish custom of waiting until the first star appears in the night sky before beginning the celebration of Christmas Eve, or " Wigilia." Told from the child's point of view, it explains the meaning behind the traditions.
